Adjectives Activities – Parts of Speech Centers
Get your students learning all about adjectives with these fun activities. There are 3 engaging activities included in this pack which are all designed to help students master adjectives.
The activities included are:
1. Describe it
Students choose a picture and four relevant adjectives to describe it. Then, they write a sentence using the adjective/s in their books or on a mini whiteboard. To extend the activity, have students come up with their own adjectives rather than choosing the pre-made ones. You may also like to mix it up sometimes – have students choose the SILLIEST adjectives to describe the pictures. This helps them to see how some adjectives are more relevant than others.
2. Guess the Animal
Choose 1-3 students to sit at the front of the class and attach the headband (made from card/paper) and an animal card. To work out which animal they have, students must ask a yes or no question to the class that includes an adjective. For example, Am I green? Do I have four legs? Can I run quickly? Am I dangerous? Can I swim fast? Am I fluffy? Do I have soft skin? Do I have a spotty body? And so on.
3. Adjective Sort
Students choose a picture card and decide whether it is an adjective or not. Then, they record the word in the matching column. They keep going until all the cards have been completed. As an extension, have students use some of the adjectives in sentences.
Includes both a USA and AUS/UK version.
