Beginning Sound Bingo – Literacy Center Activity
Sound Bingo is a literacy game which allows students to identify beginning sounds in a fun and engaging way. It is a great little addition to literacy centers and/or stations. It is designed for pair-work or small groups of up to 7 students.
How to Play:
1. Students begin with a bingo mat each. All the picture cards should be in a bag or container that they cannot see through.
2. With closed eyes, the first player pulls out a picture card from the bag/container. If that player can say the beginning sound of the picture card (e.g. c for cat) and if they have the letter on their mat, they place the picture card on top of that letter and the next player has their turn. However, if the player is unable to say the beginning sound or if they do not have the letter on their mat, they place the picture card back in the bag and the next player has their turn.
3. The game continues until one of the players fills their entire mat with pictures and calls out BINGO!
I have included 3 different bingo mat sizes so that you can choose which is most appropriate for your students. Each size has 7 different mats.
I have also included blank bingo mats in case you want students to choose their own letters. They can simply write on the mats using whiteboard marker.
