Spelling Literacy Center Activity – Let’s Spell CVC words – Short Vowels

Let’s Spell is a spelling activity which allows students to practice their spelling and sounding out skills. This pack is a great little addition to literacy centers, daily five etc. Students build on their early phonetic skills to work out the spelling of CVC words. Each letter tile has a picture which aids students in finding the correct letters for each word. This pack includes 11 different mats. It also includes a self-checker to help students monitor and self-assess the activity on their own. All the words have short vowel sounds so it is great for early spellers.

Instructions:
1) Students choose a mat.
2) Beginning with the first word, students find the matching letters using the pictures to help them.
3) Using their early phonetic strategies, students spell the word using the tiles.
4) Students write the word onto a Let’s Spell slip.
4) Once complete, students use the self-checker to check their spelling.
